Two unmissable events for a weekend dedicated to collecting
Verona, Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The countdown is on for the Numismatic Auctions 6 and 7 by Nomisma Aste, the two major spring events of the Verona-based auction house that will offer an exquisite selection of numismatic treasures for auction.
The Numismatic Auction 6 will be held in 3 sessions: the first two on Saturday, May 4 at the HQ of Nomisma Aste, and the third session on Sunday, May 5 in the stunning setting of Villa Mosconi Bertani, located in the heart of Valpolicella. A total of 1369 lots will be presented, featuring Italian and foreign coins and medals.
The most extensive section of the catalog is dedicated to the House of Savoy, showcasing true highlights such as the 4 Scudi of Francesco Giacinto di Savoia, minted under the regency of his mother Cristina of Bourbon, and the spectacular 10 Scudi 1660 multiple depicted in Ravegnani Morosini’s work 28a. Additionally, the 4 Zecchini 1745, an exceptionally high-quality specimen and certainly one of the finest to appear, the very rare 1767 Double of Carlo Emanuele III known in only a few examples, and the always impressive 5 Double Carlino 1786 of Vittorio Amedeo III, noted for its extraordinary quality, will be offered.

Two remarkable collections will also be auctioned: the De Maistre Collection and the Strada Collection.
Starting with the first, the De Maistre Collection includes a selection of medals, almost all papal and in bronze, that is certainly distinctive and aimed at enthusiasts. Collectors in this field will find a wealth of options to complete their series, especially the annual medals.
Closing the catalog is the Strada Collection, which focuses particularly on Naples and features high-quality specimens. It includes various silver coins such as Tarì and Ducati, all with beautiful, well-preserved patinas or, as is commonly said today, from old collections.
The Numismatic Auction 7 – Benatti Collection will be held on Sunday, May 5, at the enchanting Villa Mosconi Bertani. A magnificent collection of papal coins and medals, assembled over many years of passion and study by Paolo Benatti, will be offered for auction: 162 lots ranging from Martin V to Benedict XVI. These are carefully selected coins and medals, almost all characterized by the portrait of the pontiff and an exceptionally high level of quality.
Among the many gems in the catalog, the fabulous Quarto di Ducato of Leo X, featuring Jesus facing the apostles on the reverse, stands out. This specimen, already rare in itself, boasts provenance from the famous Ruchat Collection, sold by Santamaria in 1922.

Continuing on, we find the Giulio of Pope Adrian VI minted in Parma. This coin stands out for its preservation and exceptional artistic quality. Also noteworthy is the beautiful Ducato minted in Modena in the name of Clement VII before the city returned to Estense control. Of the same pope but minted in Rome, there is an outstanding silver Ducato struck during the sack of the city, one of the finest known examples that could enhance the most prestigious collections.
Also impressive is the Testone of Paul III, featuring Jesus disputing with the doctors on the reverse, surrounded by the legend TV AVTEM IDEM IPSE ES, an essential piece for Church history.
Finally, we close with the top sale of the auction: a stunning Quadrupla of the 1590 Sede Vacante. This is an exceptional coin both for its quality and rarity: the first Quadrupla of the papal series!
Two exceptional auctions, rich not only in the variety of lots offered but also in the outstanding quality and condition of the pieces for sale. They will undoubtedly be unmissable events for numismatic enthusiasts and experts.
Participation in the auctions can be in person, with prior reservation, or online by registering on the Bid Inside platform.
